What is Branding and Does My Business Need It?

Maybe an image of a Coca-Cola bottle pops into your mind when you think about a “brand.” Or Nike and their “Just Do It.”

But wait, those are all the big players, who have been around for ages, and spent millions to get where they are. Right.

But branding actually means being recognized for your product or service, no matter how small or huge you are, and it does not mean you have to be recognized around the world.

Maybe you’re the best baker in town. Highlighting this is very effective in bringing new customers in.

Build Your Own Brand

Essentially, this means having a logo, a color scheme, and being uniform in all messages you put out there.

You can’t really post images of dogs and cats and expect to be taken seriously, so the tone of your messages across all channels you use, is key.

This will differ depending on your specific product or service, and is custom to you. It’s well worth figuring this out because once you do, you’ll have your own unique voice.

What You’ll Need to Decide on:

  • Logo, and color scheme

  • Tone of Voice

  • Tagline

1 —

Website

  • Your website is your most important digital asset

  • Does it reflect your mission, and does it come across to your audience the way you want it to? You don’t have to guess - ask your customers.

2 —

Business pages and profiles

  • LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, etc.

  • Do they all have the same logo, the same color scheme and are you posting in the same tone?
